This video uses the design of a work-in-progress poster to demo using InDesign and to provide tips and examples for the following:
• Change the size of the text container or text box. Look for the red + sign to see if you’ve cut off some of your text.
• Intro to Character Styles in InDesign. Select text and apply a character style.
• Use the Color / Swatches window to change the colors of text.
• Double click to select one word in InDesign. Triple Click or more to select the line of text, Paragraph or all text in the box.
• Use the button – Fit frame to content to size the text box to the text it holds.
• Where to find your Windows / Layers palette and how to see what layer is selected. Look for the blue square in the layer palete. Change layer order using Object / Arrange / Send to Back or Move Forward, etc.
• How to best place pictures in InDesign. Don’t forget that you can lock an InDesign layer to keep an object from accidentally moving as you continue to design.
• Use zoom to see the details and add precision to your design.
• Add or place photos or vector images into InDesign.
• Scale images (Hold Command and Shift – don’t let go) and drag from the corner to resize the image.
